Duomo di Santa Maria

The original structure formed part of a Mosque which dates back to the XI century, and testimony to this can be seen in the 40metre-high octagonal bell tower and the choir. It was then turned into a church in Gothic style by the Doria family using the existing Moorish forms. In the XVI century the church officially became a cathedral.
