Porto Torres

The town was founded in 46 BC by the Romans and was named Turris Libisonis. It was the only colony on the island inhabited by Roman citizens and was an important maritime port on the routes between Spain and central Italy. Inland the area is rich and fertile, thanks to the river Riu Mannu, which has been a navigable river since ancient times
