Faradda de li Candereri
The festival originated in 1582 to give thanks to the Virgin Mary at the end of a plague epidemic. A procession weaves its way through the streets of the historical centre and carries seven heavy votive columns, three metres high, to the Church of S.Maria di Betlem. The bearers wear traditional costumes and hold colourful ribbons, moving rhythmically to the sound of tambourines and pipes.
