Carnevale di Mamoiada

The procession is thought to re-enact a victory of the Sardinian people against the Moors. The Protagonists of the event are the “mamuthones”, shepherds wearing tragic wooden masks, a sheepskin and a set of cowbells on their backs. The procession weaves its way through the streets of the town to the rhythm of the bells. They are followed by the “issocadores”, wearing white trousers and shirts with red waistcoats, armed with ropes, which they use to “capture” spectators
