Isola San Pietro

The island covers about 51 sq. km and its inhabitants descend from a colony from Liguria, which settled on the island after emigrating from Tabarca in Tunisia. The colony received the island as a concession from King Carlo Emanuele III in 1736 and the people of the island still proudly preserve their original customs and traditions. Carloforte is the island’s picturesque town, but the whole island is a picture postcard with its splendid coastline and cliffs, the towering trachyte Columns to the south and Capo Sandalo to the north, with its lighthouse and Lipu oasis, a natural reserve for the Queen’s falcon. The red tuna fish killing at the beginning of the summer is also particularly interesting
